Looking for something cool to do this summer? Find adventure aboard the Hill Country Flyer train trip with the Railroad & Heritage Museum on Saturday, August 30, from 8am to 5:30pm. Tickets are $50 each, and include round trip transportation from the Santa Fe Depot in Temple to the Austin Steam Train Depot in Cedar Park. Call 254-298-5172 to book your seat today.
The sixty-six mile round trip aboard the Hill Country Flyer is the Austin Steam Train Association’s original and most popular train ride! The train, pulled by a 1960 Alco diesel locomotive, departs from the Cedar Park Depot at 9:15 am and travels to Burnet through the Texas Hill Country, crossing the wooden trestle bridge over the South San Gabriel River and traveling through Short Creek Canyon. Enjoy lunch on your own, a leisurely stroll around the square, and the wild west gunfight during the two and a half hour layover in Burnet. Once the train returns to Cedar Park, participants will board buses and return to Temple at about 5:30pm.
“Trips aboard the historic Austin Steam Train are always popular,” said museum director Stephanie Long. “We enjoy participating in this living history, and look forward to visiting Burnet.”
The Temple Railroad and Heritage Museum offers discounted tickets to members. Contact the museum for more information about membership levels and benefits. The museum is located in the Santa Fe Depot at 315 West Avenue B in downtown Temple. The museum is open 10am – 4pm, Tuesday – Saturday.
