The Archives of the Railroad & Heritage Museum are extensive and include several important collections. They are a resource for researchers throughout the nation. Major collections include:
| Barker Collection | “First Division National Railroad Adjustment Board,” Vol. 1 – 168. |
| W. W. Childers Collection | AT&SF engineering tracings, 10,000 aperture and micro-fish cards on the Santa Fe, maps, building records and assorted documents. |
| Dawson Collection | The histories of railroads in Texas. |
| Fair Collection | Railroad books, corporate ephemera, timetables, passes and photographs. |
| Heit Collection | AT&SF engineering drawings of passenger and freight rolling stock. |
| Houston Public Library Collection | Engineering drawings of the GH&SA, H&TC and TNO Railways. |
| Krave Collection | AT&SF engineering drawings of locomotives. |
| Lehnis Collection | Photographs, timetables, corporate ephermera, maps, rosters for officers, agents, (1890 to 1980s) |
| McKay Collection | Brotherhood Journals, Magazines, and Monthly Bulletins, 1867-1960s. |
| Pounds Collection | History of the AT&SF, GC&SF; timetables, photographs, standard plans. |
| Santa Fe Depot Collection | Engineering tracings and other related documents of the Southern Division between 1911 and 1979. Santa Fe survey field books, dating to the 19th century. |

| Scholz Collection | AT&SF mechanical drawings and corporate ephemera. |
| Springer Collection | Railroad photographs, timetables, passes, corporate ephemera, and over 2,000 railroad books. |
| Thompson Collection | Railroad books, corporate ephemera, photographs, slides and timetables. |
| Werner Collection | Railroad engineering tracings representing 46 different railroad companies across Texas. |
Please note:
- The Railroad & Heritage Museum Archival and Library collections do not circulate; materials must be used in the library. Photocopies may be made for most items.Research may be conducted via mail, telephone or e-mail; however, persons wishing to visit the facility on weekends should call for an appointment.

Hours for the Archives are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday, or by appointment on weekends.
